Lake District
"There is no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing" One has to bear in mind this quote by Alfred Wainwright when venturing into the Lake District. Without doubt it is one of Britain's most beautiful National parks but the weather here is more unpredictable than anywhere else in England. The rain is of course one of the reasons it is so beautiful and if you are going to take photographs here it's something you will have to endure.
On a fine day the views are spectacular and on a stormy day they are even better. One thing my visits there have taught me is that this stunning landscape needs something more dramatic than a clear blue sky. On the other hand if it is lakes with glass like reflections you are after, get out there at the crack of dawn and you will not be disappointed.
I am convinced that there are colours in Cumbria that exist nowhere else in Britain.
Alfred Wainwright spent most of his life in the Lakes and climbed every hill. Walkers bless him for documenting every walk available and curse him for compelling them to try them all.
I adore the lakes and will visit over and over again and feel very sad that I failed to appreciate them earlier in my life.
